Summit Overview

Every year, the cycling industry faces a unique set of challenges akin to what other industries go through. However, the cycling industry has its own remedy to help overcome these challenges. The IBD Summit is where leading retailers come to sharpen their skills, meet with event sponsors and engage with industry veterans on hot topics affecting our very existence – to ultimately have a voice when it comes to shaping our industry today, and in the future.

The IBD Summit is to the retailer, like a derailleur is to a bike
Our event arms shop owners, managers and other key staff with the information needed to help them shift to a gear that makes it easier to do business. Through a combination of panel discussions, break-out groups and top level presenters, The IBD Summit is the only event where the content is designed specifically for bicycle retailers. No other event in the country offers this kind of focus, and no other organizer can bring this event to life than Interbike.

We Learn, We Network, We Ride
Whether you are a retailer that is seeking to get their business to its first milestone, or a seasoned-veteran looking to better understand the latest trends – The IBD Summit is the only event that can help take your business to the next level. Our event kicks off with an evening reception/mixer where everyone gathers for a cocktail before listening to our keynote speaker during an elegant sit-down dinner. On day 1 and day 2, we integrate speaker presentations with break-out groups, panel discussions, high-quality food and a little fresh air – as we enjoy a few rides with bikes loaned courtesy of our sponsors.

We Make Change
Retailers at The IBD Summit participate in the development of our Manifesto of Change. We bring in industry veterans and experts to participate in panel discussions on topics that affect the very existence of the IBD. If you want to help create change and be part of a new revolution in the cycling industry, come to The IBD Summit and be heard.

What does the conference fee cover?
The conference fee covers access to all seminars and speakers including the MANN U sessions, a high-end reception & dinner on Tuesday, breakfast, lunch and off-site dinner at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens Wednesday night, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday – that’s seven meals total. It also covers all transportation during the event (such as the shuttle to the Botanical Gardens), all conference materials, access to all seminar presentations post event, plus a loaner bicycle (Road or Mountain) to ride during the Summit. What the fee does not cover is your hotel costs, flight, and additional transportation costs such as airport parking or the taxi to and from the Phoenix airport.

Is transportation to and from the airport provided?
No - the host hotel, the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes, is just two exits from the Phoenix airport so you will just need to jump in a taxi for the short trip to the hotel once you land. The hotel address is: Marriott Phoenix Tempe at the Buttes, 200 Westcourt Way Tempe, AZ 85282. Click here for more hotel information.

If I arrive early or stay later at the IBD Summit host hotel can I take advantage of the IBD Summit negotiated rate?
Yes! The IBD Summit negotiated nightly rate for the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes
is available throughout the conference.

Are there other hotel options that are less expensive?
Yes. There are several hotels in the local area that at the time of publishing this page offered cheaper nightly rates. For more information, please contact Sarah.

When should I plan to arrive? Can I depart Thursday night?

The time you plan to arrive on Tuesday is contingent on what activities you wish to participate in. . If you wish to participate in the Tuesday golf game, afternoon bike ride, or attend the afternoon Mann U session you will want to arrive at the hotel by Tuesday morning. Otherwise if you plan to attend the Tuesday welcome dinner you can arrive any time before 5:00 PM.

I understand the NBDA Annual Board meeting takes place in conjunction with The IBD Summit – is this meeting open to NBDA members?
No, this meeting is only for NBDA board members. However, we have group rides scheduled throughout the conference which some of the NBDA members will be participating in, so that’s a great opportunity to connect with the board.

Are suppliers/distributors allowed to attend the IBD Summit?
Yes, absolutely. The IBD Summit has several opportunities for involvement of distributors and suppliers; you can purchase a low cost but effective sponsorship such as a table top display, or you can simply purchase a non-retail buyer badge – either way, the IBD Summit wants participation from distributors and suppliers. For more information please click here.

Tell me about the rides and the loaner bicycles.
We have mountain and road bike rides scheduled each day of the conference and we will provide loaner bicycles (these rides are excellent networking opportunities and a great chance to clear your head and refocus after several hours of sessions). If you would like a loaner bicycle please email your preference (road or mountain bike) to Justin Gottlieb (justin.gottlieb@emeraldexpo.com) and indicate your bike size by January 15th. You will need to bring your own shoes, pedals, helmet, kits, etc. For more detailed questions on the rides please feel free to email Justin Gottlieb (justin.gottlieb@emeraldepo.com) or call him at 949-226-5754.

I noticed you have Mann University Curriculum Scheduled. How does this work?
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there are Mann U Leadership sessions scheduled. On Wednesday and Thursday there are Mann U sessions scheduled concurrently with IBD Summit tract sessions. Based on the 2 and 3 day Mann University curriculum, this abbreviated module is focused on what effective communication looks and feels like in the specialty retail industry and the direct correlation to profitability and staff member productivity. The Mann U curriculum is perfect for store managers or executive level staff. Owners may wish to attend IBD Summit tract sessions while managers attend Mann U. For more information please contact Sarah.
